Most dissertations are printed on 115 gsm G-print paper. This paper is slightly glossy, but not as shiny as heavily coated paper. The advantage of this is that it brings out colors well, while still providing an excellent print result for text. However, there are alternatives such as 90 gsm Biotop (uncoated, cream-colored paper), 90 gsm HVO (white rough paper), or recycled paper. The costs do not differ, so personal preference is by far the most important factor here. All our paper types are FSC certified.

How do I do the formatting?

This depends on which program you use for this. In the case of Latex, templates from predecessors are often used. Additionally, Word and InDesign are perfectly suitable for layout. In our information booklet and on the website, you will find extensive instructions regarding setting up the correct page layout and other formatting elements. Should you have any questions or problems, we are always available to assist you.

Can I also outsource the layout?

Outsourcing the layout is certainly possible. We have specialists who are happy to design both the interior and/or the cover. On average, the total layout takes about 2-3 weeks. Even a simple cover can be ready within 1-2 working days.

How do I know the correct spine thickness?

The spine thickness is determined by the paper type and the number of pages. We have developed a spine thickness calculator for this purpose, which can be found on our website. If you enter the number of pages and select the paper type of your choice, the correct spine thickness will be calculated.

Can I have my files checked?

It is always a good idea to have your files checked while you are working on the layout. If you send them to us, we will review them and provide feedback on the overall layout so that you can get the files completely in order, ensuring they are processed correctly immediately upon submission for the proof.

On average, printing a dissertation takes between 6 and 10 working days, including a proof, depending on the print run, finishing, and rush options. If the files are submitted before 13:00 and are ready for processing, the proof will be sent the same day. After approval for production, we require another 4 working days to deliver the books within the Netherlands.
